Hey Scott,
I really enjoyed listening to the interview. Actually heard about it first on Scott Dunlap’s blog. The post had a bit of a provocative title but I found your comments to be spot-on regarding media attention and ultra-running.
Media is driven by advertising dollars and the best salespeople (or those most easily sold) get all the attention. All the while, far more talented individuals labor in near obscurity.
Let Dean play the role of David Blaine with his highly publicized stunts. If he raises money for charity, good for him. If someone is inspired to get off of the couch and run, great. You and other supernaturally talented athletes will continue to push the boundaries and inspire all of us who look past the hype to reach that much higher or farther.
Thank you.

Agree with Brad! I enjoyed listening to it and will save it in my iTunes collection for when I need to draw up the next training plan!
As for DK, they can have him and the media blitz, though I still am a little pissed nothing was said about you and Krissy in the Seattle papers. I draw my inspiration from people like you and the other super talented (and not so super talented) folks running out there. Stay true to your heart and continue to do what you do best. Most of all – like you said to me – keep it fun!!

I think you offer a lot more for the sport than just media coverage. I thought you gave a great interview. Dont let in DK get to you. Real runners know what is up. At least you know you can sleep at night knowing that you derserve the attention you have recieved and you were not just a puppet on a string. Take care.

Hey Scott….
I admire you athletic abilities but I’m not sure if your comments toward DK will help the sport…. So he grabbed a few awards… so he is a middle of the pack elite… so he is a media whore….. why say things that some may construed as you being jealous. (I’m sure your not)
Stick with running… your good at it…. stay away from sounding controversial…..

Great interview Scott. Thanks for posting the link. It is always interesting to hear elite runners like yourself talk about training. I was excited to find out you started a blog. Thanks for your willingness to share some of your experiences and wisdom.

Scott, great interview and thank you for your honest feedback.
I’m still fairly new to the ultrarunning world & I am trying to absorb advise & tips from as many as possible. Thanks for sharing your diet & training tips. Question- Where can I locate the Green Magma drink mix? (if it’s a mix, not sure)
I have mixed thoughts on your DK comments. While I completely agree 100% with your comments on DK/Media/Awards, I’m just not sure that I would have made those comments publicly. Many runners that admire you & pay attention to your outstanding results, found out about you only AFTER they were introduced to the sport by DK. You have to be careful with this fact.
Again, thanks for sharing your tips & insights.
Tom
